The stress of unfinished work, deadlines, overthinking, and pressure somehow lingers in the place where we study or work. And rest requires the opposite energy — calmness, safety, stillness.
Maybe I’m just making excuses to avoid studying.
But then why does sitting on the same bed where I scroll Instagram, overthink life, watch movies, and sleep make it harder to focus?
And why does a library instantly make me feel productive the moment I sit down?
Maybe places remember versions of us too.”
Lately, I’ve been struggling with consistency.
I’m currently living at my Nani’s house. Honestly, it has everything a student could ask for — a peaceful environment, no major responsibilities, proper facilities, and enough comfort to wake up early, study, and follow a disciplined routine.
Yet somehow, every morning I would wake up at 9, rush directly to office without studying, and tell myself I’d compensate in the evening.
But evenings weren’t any different either.
I’d come back tired, sit with my younger brother to play games “for a little while,” and before I realized it, the day would end without touching my books.
At one point, I genuinely started questioning myself.
Maybe I just don’t want it badly enough.
Maybe I’m lazy.
Maybe I’m simply making excuses in the name of “environment” and “energy.”
Sounds valid, right?
But then I tried changing a few small things around me.
The desk where I studied had barely been cleaned in two months — so I cleaned it immediately.
I deleted the game my brother and I spent hours playing.
I even started setting a timer on the AC at night so the room wouldn’t feel too cold in the morning, making it easier to get out of bed early.
Small changes. Nothing dramatic.
And strangely… it worked.
I started waking up earlier.
I started studying consistently in the mornings.
Without forcing motivation. Without productivity videos. Without waiting for “Monday.”
That’s when I realized something important:
Sometimes consistency is not the problem.
The environment driving your actions is.
The spaces around us silently shape our behavior.
A cluttered desk creates mental clutter.
Comfort creates delay.
Easy distractions steal difficult goals.
And often, we don’t need a completely new life.
We just need small changes in the energies surrounding our current one.
So if you find yourself stuck in a cycle of procrastination, don’t immediately question your discipline.
First, question your surroundings.
Because sometimes, changing your environment changes you along with it.
